News Investigators/ The leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has described as fake the results of its primary elections held in parts of Enugu State on Friday, circulating in the social media.
The national leadership of the party however, said that the NDC conducted successful, free and fair primaries across the state.
Speaking with newsmen on Sunday in Enugu, Ikenna Morgan, the National Secretary of the party, said the primary election, which took place on Friday was conducted through direct primaries.
According to him, this allowed all eligible party members to vote for their preferred candidates for various elective positions, including presidency, governorship, senate, house of representatives and the state assembly.
The NDC scribe explained that the exercise complied strictly with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution.
He added that the exercise was fully supervised by the party’s National Electoral Committee from Abuja and monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“The Nigeria Democratic Congress successfully conducted its primary elections in Enugu State on Friday May 29, 2026.
“The process was monitored by our National Electoral Committee and observed by representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“The exercise was orderly, transparent and conducted in line with the Electoral Act and the constitution of our great party, ” Morgan said.
He noted that the collation and verification of votes had been concluded, adding that the official results remained in the custody of the appropriate party authorities.
“This will only be made public through recognised constitutional channels, ” he said.
He cautioned aspirants, party faithful and the general public against relying on unofficial information being circulated on social media platforms, blogs and other unverified channels.
“The results of the primary elections have been duly collated by the party.
“However, contrary to several reports circulating online, no official announcement has yet been made by the National Electoral Committee or the national leadership of the party.
“Any individual or platform claiming to possess or announce official results is acting without authorisation,” Morgan added.
He assured all aspirants of transparency, fairness and due process
He said the names of successful candidates would be formally transmitted to INEC in strict compliance with statutory requirements after the completion of internal administrative procedures and ratification processes.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that some social media outlets had on Friday published names of aspirants, who purportedly won the NDC primaries in the state without proper authorisation.
NAN also reports that the fake results were being circulated by a faction led by JohnPaul Anih, claiming to be the authentic leadership of the party in Enugu State.
The NDC national leadership had however, disowned the faction as not representing the party, while affirming Mr Ibuchukwu Obetta as the recognised chairman of the party in the state.
