Armed gunmen suspected to be herdsmen, on Monday morning, abducted the suspended chairman of Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State, Mrs Amina Audu and her driver.
Mrs Audu, according to a source, was passing through Naka/Makurdi Road on Monday when gunmen suspected to be herders ambushed them at Tyolaha Ahume along Naka/Makurdi road.
The source from the area who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that the suspected herders shot at a moving car which forced the car to a halt and the gunmen instantly whisked them away.
“The incident happened this morning close to Tyolaha Ahume village along Naka/Makurdi road when gunmen ambushed a moving car and shot at it until it stopped.
“Immediately, the gunmen swooped on a woman and the driver and ran into the bush,” the local said.
Our correspondent who called one of Amina’s colleagues, the suspended Chairman of Ado Local Government, James Oche confirmed the abduction of the woman.
He said, “It is true, I learnt she was kidnapped alongside her driver and they (kidnappers) are yet to make contact with anyone.
A man, his wife and driver had earlier been kidnapped by the same herders at same spot before laying ambush for the next Victims.
Efforts to get the spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP, Catherine Anene prove abortive as she could not respond to calls put across to her cell phone.
She also did not respond to text messages sent to her cellphone as of the time of filing this report.
When contacted, the Security Adviser to the governor, Joseph Har said he didn’t have the details.
“I don’t have details, you can call the PPRO”, Har said.
