Nasarawa By-election: Ex-IGP Campaign Group Endorses Maku

News Investigators/ The Counter and Mobilisation Team of the retired Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu 2027 Governorship Movement in Nasarawa State has endorsed Labaran Maku, Labour Party candidate for the Nasarawa North Senatorial District by-election.

Isa Nathaniel, Chairman of the team, announced the endorsement on Thursday during a meeting with Mr Maku in Akwanga ahead of the June 20 by-election.

Mr Nathaniel said that the team arrived at the decision after assessing all the candidates contesting the election to fill the vacant senatorial seat following the death of Sen. Godiya Akwashiki.

“Following an exhaustive and objective review of all the contenders in this race, and after wide-ranging consultations with key stakeholders, we have come to a definitive conclusion.

“We formally and unreservedly endorse Labaran Maku as the most qualified, competent and prepared candidate for the position,” he said.

According to him, Mr Maku enjoys widespread acceptance across Akwanga, Wamba and Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Areas and possesses the capacity to unite the people irrespective of ethnic, cultural and religious differences.

Mr Nathaniel said that Maku’s public service record, spanning student unionism, leadership of the Eggon Cultural Development Association (ECDA), Commissioner for Information, Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State and Minister of Information, had adequately prepared him for legislative responsibilities.

He also described Mr Maku as an advocate of quality education, youth development and women’s economic empowerment.

The chairman further said the district required an experienced representative capable of attracting federal projects and leveraging existing networks for the benefit of the constituency.

He assured Mr Maku of the group’s full mobilisation efforts to ensure his victory at the poll and urged eligible voters to turn out in large numbers to vote for the Labour Party candidate.

Mr Nathaniel also appealed to political parties, youths, security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure peaceful conduct before, during and after the election.

“True democracy thrives only when the electoral environment is secure, peaceful and every legitimate vote is allowed to count,” he said.

Also speaking, Mr Jacob Ajegena-Kudu, member representing Nassarawa Eggon East Constituency in the State House of Assembly, expressed support for Maku, describing him as a credible and experienced leader.

Responding, Mr Maku thanked the group for the endorsement and pledged to provide effective and quality representation if elected in Saturday’s by-election.
