Gwarzo Steps Down For Barau In APC Kano North Senatorial Election

News Investigators/  Kano State Governor, Abba  Yusuf, has resolved the political dispute within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano North Senatorial District following a series of meetings with party stakeholders.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi  Dawakin-Tofa, said this in a statement issued in Kano on Wednesday.

The reconciliation received the intervention and support of President Bola Tinubu and Vice- President, Kashim Shettima.

The meetings produced a consensus arrangement between Abdullahi Gwarzo, popularly known as ATM, and the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Barau Jibrin.

Under the agreement Mr Gwarzo officially withdrew his senatorial ambition in support of Mr Barau ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a formal withdrawal letter submitted to the party leadership, Mr Gwarzo reaffirmed his loyalty and commitment to the APC.

Speaking after the meeting he described himself as a loyal party member who would always respect the collective decision of the party leadership.

He said he could not reject Tinubu, Shettima and Yusuf’s intervention, noting that the three leaders had worked tirelessly to ensure peace and consensus within the party in Kano State.

Responding, Mr Barau said Mr Gwarzo had demonstrated maturity, respect and a strong sense of mutual understanding. He added that they had always remained friends and political associates.

Mr Barau assured that they would continue to work together for the unity and progress of APC.

Mr Yusuf commended both leaders for showing sacrifice, understanding and commitment to party unity.

He said the resolution would further strengthen the APC in Kano State and across the country.

The governor also reaffirmed his commitment to dialogue, reconciliation and inclusive leadership among party members and stakeholders.

Mr Yusuf earlier had resolved the Kano Central Senatorial tussle, where former, Sen. Ibrahim Shekarau emerged as the APC consensus candidate.
