Family pleads for release of Jonathan’s abducted Cousin

The family of Mr. Jephthah Robert Yekorogha, a coursin of former President Goodluck Jonathan who was abducted on Tuesday have appealed to the kidnappers to release him unconditionally with harm.

The family, in a statement by Mr Azibola Roberts, a younger brother to the kidnap victim also called on the members of the public for sustained support that could lead to the early release of the man.

Robert said that Mr. Jephthah Robert was kidnapped on Monday night from his car in front of his house in Yenagoa, by four men in black uniform who drove him off to an unknown destination.

He said that the issue of the abduction of his elder brother was receiving due attention from the security agencies.

He thanked the State Commissioner of Police, and the Director State Services for their commitment.

The statement reads: Mr. Jephthah Robert Yekorogha, was kidnapped at about 8:40pm on Monday, 24th January, 2022, in front of his house gate at Biogbolo, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, by four ‘gunmen’ in black uniform, who, at gunpoint, seized him in his car and forced him into their vehicle and zoomed off.

“In the last few days, we have been inundated with inquiries by well-meaning Nigerians and the Media for confirmation of the kidnap of our sibling. Consequently, this statement has become necessary to clarify the situation.

“Our elder brother, Mr. Jephthah Robert Yekorogha, was kidnapped at about 8:40pm on Monday, 24th January, 2022, in front of his house gate at Biogbolo, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, by four ‘gunmen’ in black uniform, who, at gunpoint, seized him in his car and forced him into their vehicle and zoomed off.

“This incident was reported to the law-enforcement agencies immediately it happened and is receiving maximum attention.

“We want to thank all well-meaning Nigerians who by way of calls, text messages and visits have stood by us since the incident occurred.

“We ask for the support of the public on any lead for the quick release of our brother.

“In particular, we express our appreciation to the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State and the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) for their determined assistance.

“We appeal to the abductors of our brother to immediately release him unconditionally, without harm; and turn a new leaf for the peace, security and prosperity of Bayelsa State,” Azibaola Robert.”

The abduction of Jonathan’s cousin occurred barely 24 hours after the state Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Federal Otokito, was freed by his abductors.

Otokito was whisked away from his residence on January 20 in his community, Otuokpoti, in the Ogbia Local Government Area of the state.

The commissioner spent about five days in the custody of his assailants before he was released on Monday.

The National Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party has approved and adopted reports of the Screening Committee and Appeal Panel which cleared all the six gubernatorial aspirants for Osun State.

Members of the NWC of the party at the 544th meeting held on Wednesday announced to hold stakeholders meeting with the body in Abuja on Tuesday 1st February 2022.

Part of the key decisions reached at the end of the cruciaal meeting was to hold Party’s Governorship Primary to elect the PDP flag bearer on Monday, March 07, 2022.

According to the party in a statement issued by its National Organizing Secretary, Hon. Umar M. Bature, the party further approved Ward Congresses to elect three-man Ad-Hoc Ward Delegates which scheduled to hold from Wednesday, February 16 – Thursday 17, 2022 respectively.

The party also approved its LGA Congresses to elect (1) National Delegate per local government and Person Living With Disability (PLWD ) on Saturday, February 26, 2022.
