Edo Security Squad Arrests 12 Suspected Cultists In Benin Crackdown

News Investigators/ The Edo State Security Squad (ESSS) has arrested 12 suspected cultists during raids on criminal hideouts in Uzebu Quarters of Benin, Oredo Local Government Area.

ESSS Publicity Secretary, George Aburime, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Benin on Saturday,  after the Friday operation.

Mr Aburime said the suspects were arrested at Asoro Hill, Uzebu Quarters, along Ekenwan Road, identified as a hub for drug trafficking and cult activities.

He said the suspects had been handed over to the police for further investigation and would face prosecution if found culpable.

According to him, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo’s administration will not tolerate criminality or any breach of law and order in Edo.

Mr Aburime said the squad also visited Iyanomo community, Ikpoba-Okha LGA, to address a leadership dispute involving rival groups.

He said the intervention aimed to restore peace, urging the factions to embrace dialogue and avoid actions capable of disrupting public order.

Mr Aburime appealed to residents not to harbour criminals, stressing that community support remained crucial to sustaining peace and security across the state.
