News Investigators/ The Niger Government says it is providing the necessary support to security agencies in the state to ensure the safe rescue of victims kidnapped in Dakare District of Borgu Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Homeland Security, Maurice Magaji, stated this on Thursday during an interaction with newsmen on the security situation in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that scores of worshippers were abducted at a mosque in Dakare District on Aug. 21.
Mr Magaji said that the government was working closely with security agencies and would not relent in its efforts to secure the safe release of the victims.
He urged the media to continue to collaborate with the government and security agencies in the fight against banditry and other forms of criminality.
The commissioner also called on residents to support security efforts by providing useful information on suspicious activities or movements in their communities.
He said no government could achieve meaningful development without adequate security.
According to him, the state government, in collaboration with security agencies, had established a security situation information room to provide regular updates on security challenges to journalists.
“It is a feedback mechanism, interacting with you to add up to whatever we are doing,” he said.
NAN reports that representatives of the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) were also present at the security interaction with newsmen.
