News Investigators/ Sterling Bank has unveiled ‘AlwaysOn by Sterling’, a new feature on its OneBank platform, offering eligible customers up to N1 million in monthly advances.
Chief Executive Officer, Abubakar Suleiman, announced the initiative in a statement on Friday, describing it as a financial support system for customers with low account balances.
Launched on Workers’ Day 2025, AlwaysOn aims to remove structural financial barriers and empower Nigerians to move forward with confidence in uncertain times.
The feature is by invitation only and open to customers with active OneBank accounts who have banked consistently with Sterling.
According to Suleiman, it allows users to make essential payments without delays, bypassing the traditional hurdles often linked to conventional credit systems.
“This is not just about funds. It’s about freedom and dignity – giving customers the tools to act when life demands it,” he said.
He described AlwaysOn not as a product, but a shift in how the bank backs its customers’ financial journeys and ambitions.
“We’re building for people with grit and dreams too big to wait. If you’ve earned our trust, you’ll now get our backing,” Suleiman said.
He said AlwaysOn continues Sterling’s efforts to reshape finance, following April’s Zero Transfer Fees initiative, which returned N13 billion to Nigerians.
“It also builds on the Free Bus Ride programme, which supported commuters during economic hardship by providing no-cost transportation home from work,” he added.
Suleiman noted these innovations are powered by SeaBaas, Nigeria’s first indigenous core banking platform, now driving Sterling’s customer-first approach.
Obinna Ukachukwu, Growth Executive for Retail and Consumer Banking, said the bank is fully engaged in supporting Nigerians on the ground.
“We’re not on the sidelines. We’re removing roadblocks and offering financial freedom when it’s needed most,” Ukachukwu stater.
He added that public response has been strong, with national praise for Sterling’s bold approach to responsible corporate leadership.
“Nigerians are encouraged to join the waitlist this May to qualify for up to N1 million monthly in flexible, dignity-focused relief advances,” he added.
