News Investigators/ Apo Mechanics and Traders Unity Forum has commended President Bola Tinubu and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, for fulfilling their promises to relocate its members to Wasa District, Abuja.
Coordinator of the forum, Chinedu Nweke gave the commendation in Abuja on Friday, on the sideline of the inauguration of access roads, power and water supply provided for the informal sector’s layout in Wasa.
Mr Nweke said that the Apo mechanics and traders were meant to relocate from their current congested location along the Outer Southern Expressway to the layout, earmarked as their permanent site.
He, however, said that for decades, successive administrations have come and gone, made promises but nothing happened, stressing that Tinubu and Wike have made it happen within three years.
“We have been eager. Nobody is comfortable or happy trading on a road corridor.
“We have held several protests and written several letters to the government to move us to a more comfortable place to carry out our businesses but nothing has happened until now.
“So we are very happy with the current development. What remains for us is the release of the allocation letters,” he said.
The coordinator, however, expressed optimism that Wike would give approval for the release of the allocation letters to the mechanics, artisans and traders.
“It has been on the news for sometime now that the settlement of Apo relocation has become a reality under Tinubu, but for us, it’s not yet a reality until we have received the documents.
“This is because there’s no way we can leave our current location and move here without land titles but we are hopeful that the FCT minister will do the needful very soon.
“After coming here and confirming the fulfillment of Wike’s promise, it gave us more hope that very soon, he will release the allocation letters to us,” Nwankwo said.
While inaugurating the infrastructure, Tinubu said his administration would provide premium infrastructure in Wasa to transform the district into a modern, vibrant commercial hub in the FCT.
Tinubu, represented by the Speaker of the House of Representative, Tajudeen Abbas, described the informal sector as the true “engine of the nation’s economy”, sustaining millions of livelihoods.
