2023: Ihiala women’s groups decry neglect of constituency

Ahead of the 2023 House of Representatives election in Anambra State, some women’s groups in Ihiala Federal Constituency have insisted the election would be based on the antecedents of contestants and not on campaign promises.
The women rising from a meeting on Monday decried the poor performance of its representatives noting that Federal Constituency has not fared well like others in the state such as Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Local Goverment Area as well as Idemili North and Idemili South council areas.
A women’s leader in the area, Mrs. Ekpere Ejezie from Uzoakwa Ihiala said the lawmaker representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Local Goverment Areas, Hon Chris Azubogu, did so well for his people to the extent that his constituents christened him “Mr. Project”.
Ejezie pointed out that the same thing cannot be said about Ihiala Federal Constituency, which has largely been neglected by its representatives.
She insisted that the women are out to ensure that the constituency is represented by a strong personality with a strong voice in the House of Representatives come 2023.
Ejezie averred that Ihiala women have done a critical examination of the persons indicating interest in the lower chamber of the National Assembly job and can say with all sense of responsibility that they stand with Barr. Johnmary Akachukwu Maduakolam.
She opined Barrister Maduakolam had been using his private resources to better the lots of Ihiala students through his annual scholarship programme.
She also said that the UK-trained lawyer had been handling cases that bother on the infringement of human rights without collecting any form of fee from his people.
“The House of Representatives aspirant, Barr Johnmary Akachukwu Maduakolam has not come to see us as a group but his fame has gone ahead of him. People are excited about his aspiration because of the belief that he would be a round peg in a round hole.
“If he has been doing so much with his private resources, it is obvious that Ihiala Federal Constituency and constituents would be in for a good time if he makes it to the National Assembly, she stated.
Ejezie said she was aware that Maduakolam has promised to introduce a CLEAN revolution in Ihiala federal constituency if he makes it to the House of Representatives, which she noted is a welcome development.
Barr Maduakolam, a UK trained lawyer last month made public his aspiration to become a member of the House of Representatives.
