News Investigators/ Kashim Tumsah, an aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship race in Yobe, has denied reports alleging his withdrawal from the contest ahead of the party primaries.
Mr Tumsah, in a statement issued by the Media Directorate of his governorship campaign organisation on Wednesday in Damaturu, described the reports as false and misleading.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr Tumsah was among members of the group earlier known as the G-6, comprising six APC governorship aspirants who opposed the endorsement of a consensus candidate in the state.
The group had consistently called for direct primaries in line with the Electoral Act 2026 and APC guidelines.
According to the statement, Mr Tumsah remains a bona fide aspirant and is committed to pursuing his ambition through a democratic process.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Kashim Musa Tumsah remains a bona fide aspirant in the race and continues to pursue his aspiration with commitment, courage and faith in the democratic process,” the statement said.
It stated that the aspiration was driven by the conviction that due process, fairness and strict adherence to the Electoral Act and APC guidelines must prevail.
The statement added that Tumsah remained resolute in pursuing what he described as the collective struggle for justice and internal democracy within the party.
“He remains resolute and determined to continue the struggle for what is right until justice is done,” it said.
The aspirant called on his supporters, associates and well-wishers across the state to remain peaceful, steadfast and loyal to the APC.
He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), party officials and security agencies to ensure fairness, transparency and credibility during the forthcoming APC governorship primary election in the state.
Mr Tumsah expressed optimism that adherence to democratic principles would strengthen the APC and position it for success in the 2027 general elections.
