SUBSIDY REMOVAL: TINUBU DIRECTS NEC TO KICK-START INTERVENTION PROCESS

The National Economic Council (NEC) led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, has been directed to kickstart intervention process of cushioning the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.

President Bola Tinubu gave the directive on Wednesday, during his meeting with some major oil marketers who were on courtesy call on President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, disclosed this while briefing State House Correspondents after he led the oil marketers on a visit to the President Tinubu.

Abiodun explained that President Bola Tinubu directed NEC to kickstart the process of working on interventions to ameliorate the impact of subsidy removal on the people.

According to him,  the marketers were in the presidential villa to express solidarity with the president for his bold decision to end subsidy payment.

He stressed that Tinubu’s determination to remove the subsidy, shows his political power and courage  to remove the hermorage that had eaten deep into the fabrics of the country for years.

Abiodun regretted the inconveniences that would emerge from the policy on the part of the people, stressing that the removal of the subsidy would at the end pay off.

He added that there could be no gains without pains.

Meanwhile, the marketers assured the President of their plan to donate 50 to 100 50-seater mass transit (at the cost of about N10 billion) CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) buses.

The marketers said their purpose was their own initiative and plan to support the administration to succeed.

The marketers urged other well meaning corporate bodies to do the same by assisting the government at this critical period.
