News Investigators/ Slovakia will raise its monthly minimum wage to 972 euros in 2027 from 915 euros in 2026.
Labour Minister Erik Tomas announced this on Tuesday.
Tomas made this known following a meeting of the country’s tripartite council.
He said the increase would bring the minimum wage closer to the 1,000-euro threshold.
Tomas also estimated that the minimum wage could rise to 1,016 euros in 2028, exceeding the 1,000-euro mark.
Extra payments for night and weekend work will also increase because they are linked to the minimum wage.
Under Slovak law, the minimum wage is set annually for the following calendar year and applies to both monthly and hourly wages.
The law stipulates that the minimum wage should be 60 per cent of the average nominal salary recorded two years earlier.
Slovak Statistics Office said the average nominal salary stood at 1,620 euros in 2025.
Tomas said about 120,000 employees were receiving the basic minimum wage in 2026.
When all six minimum-wage levels based on job difficulty are considered, the increase will affect about 160,000 workers.
The figure represents about six per cent of Slovakia’s workforce.
