A leaked video that went viral on Monday showed the lawmaker raining insults on Stephen Abuwatseya, the Bolt driver, slapping him three times as the driver requested the he be paid for the delivery made to him at his Maitama residence.

As the lawmaker assaulted the driver, he repeatedly asked him if he knew who he was talking to, threatening to beat him to pulp, lock him up in his generator house, and even make him to disappear from Nigeria, and nothing would happen.

In the statement, the FCT police spokesperson, disclosed that preliminary investigation had revealed that Abuwatseya was delivering a package to Ikwechegh when a dispute arose over the method of delivery.

The statement says the incident involved Alexander Ikwechegh, who represents the Aba North and South Federal Constituency in Abia State, explaining that “The incident occurred on October 27, 2024, at a residence on Zamfara Crescent, Maitama, Abuja.

“The FCT Police Command has received a report at the Maitama Divisional Headquarters regarding an incident involving a Bolt driver, Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya, and Hon. Alexander Ikwechegh, who represents the Aba North and South Federal Constituency in Abia State. The incident occurred on October 27, 2024, at a residence on Zamfara Crescent, Maitama, Abuja.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that Mr Abuwatseya was delivering a package to Hon. Ikwechegh when a dispute arose concerning the method of delivery. During this altercation, Mr. Abuwatseya was reportedly physically assaulted.”

The Command, according to Adeh, frowned at the disrespectful and dismissive manner the lawmaker touted the office and name of the Inspector General of Police while assaulting Abuwatseya, daring the Bolt driver to call the IGP, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun.

“After allegedly slapping the victim,” the FCT police PRO continued, “ he reportedly remarked with contempt, “You can go ahead and call the Inspector General of Police,” demonstrating a troubling disregard for the authority of law enforcement.

“Currently, the suspect is at the Maitama Police Station undergoing questioning.”

Ms. Josephine Adeh then informed that the “Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, has mandated a thorough investigation into the matter.

“The Command is committed to conducting an impartial investigation and ensuring justice in all cases. Upon completion of the investigation, appropriate legal action will be taken.”
