Rivers South-East Senatorial By-election: PDP Candidate Says Voter Turnout Impressive

News Investigators/ Olaka Nwogu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Rivers South-East senatorial bye-election, has described the turnout of voters at the election as impressive.

Mr Nwogu made the call while speaking to newsmen after casting his vote at Alesa, Eleme Local Government Area on Saturday.

Mr Nwogu described the turnout of voters as a clear indication of the people’s support and acceptance of the process.

The candidate urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to over rely on technology in conducting the election.

He raised concerns over the effective functioning of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), and urged INEC to avoid challenges that could disenfranchise voters.

“We hear that the BVAS machines are having some challenges, I urge INEC to avoid anything that will lead to disenfranchisement.

“INEC should be more cautious in relying on technology. It is important for our people to vote during the election,” he said.

It would be recalled that the bye-election is to fill the vacuum created by the death of Sen. Barinada Mpigi, the former senator representing Rivers South-East District.
