News Investigators/ The House Committee probing the establishment and operations of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), has requested the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu to provide the agency’s Director-General, Mr Adeyemi Adeniyi on July 29.
The committee also ruled that 13 civil servants across the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) and the Office Head of Service should appear to explain their roles on Wednesday July 29.
The committee made the request at a public hearing over the activities of the agency on Monday in Abuja.
The committee ruled that Adeniyi should be brought to further clarify issues on alleged forgery concerning the establishment and operations of the council.
The Chairman of the committee, Rep. Yusuf Gagdi (APC-Plateau) said that in view of the fact that names of individuals and agencies of government had been mentioned, the committee needed both them and Adeniyi for further clarifications.
“We will need them to confirm some documents for us in such a way that it will not undermine the ongoing investigation to enable us submit our report on time.
“In view of the fact that names of some patriotic Nigerians have been mentioned, agencies have been mentioned, documents have been said to be mutilated; for clarity of our findings and recommendations, the committee resolves that the Inspector-General of Police do kindly bring Mr Adeyemi Adeniyi and the persons mentioned on Wednesday July 29,” he said.
In his representation, the Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr Shamsudeen Ogunjimi explained that the first contact between the council and his office was in November 2024.
He said that there was a letter from the State House directing the OAGF to create administrative code, Single Treasury Account (TSA) and open foreign currency accounts for the agency with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
He said that the letter also directed that budgetary provisions should be made for the council in the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
Ogunjimi said that he declined the request for TSA account as the council did not meet the necessary requirements, but approved the other accounts for inflow only pending the completion of documentation process.
The accountant general said that the council also wrote to the OAGF requesting for self accounting status and that, after an internal committee verification, it was granted for six month pending when all requirements were met.
He said that the council also request for the deployment of five members of treasury staff but only three were granted by the OAGF.
Ogunjimi said that it was later discovered that all the letters from the State House to the OAGF were fake and that the agency already absorbed two treasury staff members deployed to the former Office of the Chief Economic Adviser to the President.
He told the committee that all the members of staff involved in the processing of these documents are currently facing internal disciplinary actions and further actions would be taken after police investigations.
The panel adjourned hearing to Wednesday July 29.
