POLICE STRIKE: IGP WARNS RANK AND FILE AGAINST MUTINY…PUTS DIGs, AIGs, COMMISSIONERS ON RED ALERT

The Inspection General of Police, IGP, has placed all the senior police officers ranging from the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Commissioners of Police and heads of all the police formations across the country on a red alert concerning the impending strike by the rank and file of the force.

The authorities of the Nigerian Police in a wireless message to all the Commands cautioned the rank and file of the force against any act that is inimical to national security especially at this trying period in the country.

The police warned it’s men and officers against any action that can further tarnish the image of the force which it said is already bad before the public.

This was contained in a “Police Wireless Message”, dispatched to all the Commands and formation, dated March 15, 2022.
The wireless message copied to all the Assistant Inspector Generals of Police, All Commissioners in charge of State Police Command, and formations.

The police expressed concern “that some rank and file are intending to embark on strike over non- implementation of the new police salary structure, failure in providing sophisticated weapons to fight crime and poor general welfare of policemen.”

The Department in the directive quoted, stated that the Inspector General of Police has issued a directive to compute the salaries of policemen under the new salary structure.

The message, noted that the IGP has already issued a directives on tax relief and exemption for officers and men for immediate implementation.

The IGP was also said to have initiated distribution of kits and other accoutrements which have been concluded at the Force Headquarters.

It was further noted that the Force Headquarters would soon conclude arrangement to direct state commands and formation to send representatives for collection of their kits.

The letters instructed the top management of the police to embark on immediate public enlightenment in their respective areas of operations,

“You are to implore all serving members to exercise caution at this trying times and intimate them that force management team is making robust efforts to improve the general welfare of policemen across board while we must avoid all mutinous matters that will further damage our already bad name.” The message said.
