News Investigators/ The State Executive Council (SEC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Plateau has reaffirmed that Hannatu Gagara remains the State Chairman of the party.
The SEC, led by Mannesh Wakyil, Chairman, ADC Plateau Central Zone, made the reaffirmation on Wednesday in Jos, during a press conference.
Mr Wakyil said that under Mrs Gagara’s leadership, the party regained stability, visibility, and organisational growth in the state.
The zonal chairman further said that Mrs Gagara, who has served as the party’s state woman leader for over 17 years, was appointed as the substantive state chairman in August 2024 after the suspension of the former chairman, Samuel Gyang.
He said Mr Gyang was made the party’s interim chairman in 2022 to reorganise the party, but he was suspended for alleged anti-party activities and gross misconduct.
According to him, the suspension, which was in line with Article 15 of the ADC Constitution, has not been lifted.
He, however, expressed concern that the suspended chairman was suddenly parading himself as state chairman.
According to him, Mr Gyang’s suspension was not lifted by the party’s national organs, a move they described as impersonation and a threat to the integrity of the reconciliation process.
Mr Wakyil warned that any attempt to impose Gyang on the Plateau ADC structure could reignite internal divisions, trigger mass defections, and weaken the party’s electoral standing in a politically competitive state dominated by the PDP and APC.
The state officials appealed to the National Chairman to preserve peace, order, and continuity by retaining Hannatu Gagara as the recognised state chairman.
“The state executive council has confidence in the national leadership of the ADC and believes the issue will be resolved amicably,” he added.
