The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) on Sunday declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the overall winners of the just concluded Local Government Area elections in the state.
The elections was held on April 30th, 2022 in the state.
The Chairman of BSIEC, Dr. Tersoo Loko, who declared the winners at the commission’s Headquarters in Makurdi, announced that PDP won in all the chairmanship positions and the 270 councillorship seats in the 23 local government areas .
He stated that certificates of return would be issued to the winners as soon as possible at the commission’s secretariat.
The Umpire enjoined the elected chairmen in the 23 local government areas to ensure good governance to the people and ensure fast development of the local areas.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the announcement, the commissioner in charge of media and publicity, Sunday Agbaji said that polls was conducted credibly, fair and transparent.
On why the main opposition party, All Progressive Congress(APC) boycotted elections, Mr. Agbaji said no reason was communicated to the Electoral body by the Apc.
He said that all political parties were duly communicated and information about the exercise was adequately released to all.
“We gave enough publicity to the exercise. Stakeholders’ meetings were held with all the stakeholders in the state.
“Only three political parties including PDP, APGA and LP featured candidates and at the end, PDP won all the seat. I want to thank Benue electorates for their show of maturity and understanding”, Agbaji stated.
