Oyo Govt Digitalises Traffic Management In Partnership With Globacom

News Investigators/ The Oyo State Government, on Tuesday, inaugurated the digitalisation of its traffic management system.

At the inauguration in Ibadan, Gov. Seyi Makinde said the digitalisation, in partnership with Globacom Limited, embodied his administration’s vision to leverage technology in addressing challenges of governance.

The governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Segun Ogunwuyi, said technology would enhance efficiency and the quality of life of the citizenry.

“Digitising the Oyo State Road Traffic Management (OYRTMA), through deployment of real-time traffic monitoring systems, will improve traffic flow.

“It will also reduce the stress and delays faced by road users daily.

“The advanced surveillance systems will enhance safety by enabling swift responses to accidents and incidents.

“Automated systems will equally minimise manual intervention, increasing the overall efficiency of OYRTMA operations,” he said.

Makinde said the collaboration with Globacom was not just about technology but about leveraging innovation to create safer roads.

He said it was also to reduce travel times and enhance the efficiency of the transportation network.

“We envision a system where data-driven insights enhance decision-making; digital tools streamline enforcement processes, and advanced communication platforms foster real-time coordination,” he said.

The governor urged all stakeholders to embrace the transformation by complying with traffic regulations and actively supporting efforts to digitise and optimise the traffic management systems.

Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of OYRTMA, Mr Adesagba Adekoya, said the collaboration would enhance road safety, optimise traffic flow and improve the experience of road users in the state.

Adekoya said Globacom would provide essential operational equipment, including heavy-duty towing platforms and other key resources, apart from the digital infrastructure.

“These tools will enhance OYRTMA’s ability to respond quickly and efficiently to traffic incidents, ensuring minimal disruption to traffic flow and improving overall operational effectiveness,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of Globacom, Mr Niyi Adejobi, said the partnership would enhance the traffic management system in the state.

Adejobi commended the state government’s initiative toward a robust and efficient transport system.
