The Acting Anambra State Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mr Thickman Tanimu, has confirmed the loss of one life at the Enugu-Otu, Aguleri flood.
Tanimu, who disclosed this in Awka on Monday, identified the victim as Ginikanwa Izuoba.
Tanimu said that Izuoba passed on when his house collapsed due to the impact of the flood.
He also said that at least six hundred and fifty- one thousand, fifty-three persons in six local government areas of the state had so far been displaced by flooding with Ogbaru Local Government Area, having the highest number of victims followed by Anambra East and West Council Areas.
He said that NEMA, accompanied by officials of Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, visited Umueze-Anam, Mkpunando, Igbedo, Inoma and Ifite-Ogwari all in Anambra East and Anyamelum Council Areas.
He however commended Anambra SEMA for taking some proactive measures to mitigate the impact of the disaster.
He listed some of the measures to include identification of thirteen Internally Displaced Persons camps, recruitment of camp managers, support staff, and activation of health workers to work with people in the camps.
He listed the camps so far activated to include the Ifite-Ogwari and Igbakwu Health Centres and described the assessment tour as the first step by Federal Government.
