There was a breakdown of law and order on Saturday in New Benin Market, Benin City, as a trader of Hausa extraction allegedly stabbed a woman to death in the market.
A group of youths in the market reacted angrily as they beat the suspected trader whose identity is still unknown.

A video of the incident showed the police lead away the surrounded suspected killer into safety as crowd of wailing angry traders and passers by made attempts to attack him.
A combined team of security operatives comprising the police and the military have taken over the New New Benin axis of the city to prevent a break down of law and order.
The Spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, Mr Chidi Nwabuzor, is yet to respond to inquiries on the matter.
