News Investigators/ The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) says it is using corps members to educate Nigerians on their rights to efficient and timely public service delivery.
Jonathan Yavala, NYSC state coordinator in Plateau, said this on Monday in Jos while declaring open the 2026 SERVICOM /NYSC Customer Service Week.
Mr Yavala said the scheme was leveraging its Community Development Service (CDS) groups to promote accountability, transparency and effective service delivery in communities across the country.
He said the initiative was aimed at bridging the knowledge gap among Nigerians, many of whom were unaware of their rights to timely and efficient services in public institutions.
According to him, the NYSC also sensitises corps members during orientation camp on their rights to public services, their responsibilities and the need to comply with the scheme’s bye-laws.
He explained that the SERVICOM was initiated by the administration of former president Olusegun Obasanjo in 2004 to promote accountability, transparency and quality service delivery in public institutions.
Mr Yavala said SERVICOM operations covered NYSC orientation camps, the National Directorate Headquarters, area offices, state secretariats, zonal offices and local government offices.
He said service delivery within the scheme had improved considerably since the formal adoption of SERVICOM in 2004.
The coordinator, however, acknowledged that the NYSC still had room for improvement in achieving its service delivery objectives.
He urged staff at the state and local government levels to remain committed to the core objectives of SERVICOM, particularly combating corruption, waste and inefficiency in the public sector.
Mr Yavala also commended corps members, especially members of the SERVICOM CDS group, for their contributions to educating Nigerians on their rights to efficient and effective public services.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2026 SERVICOM Week/NYSC Customer Service Week is being celebrated with the theme, “Going the Extra Mile”.
