News Investigators/ The National Population Commission (NPC) in Niger has charged residents to participate in the ongoing digital birth and death registration under the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System (E-CRVS).
NPC’s Director in the state, Musa Yusuf -Sabo, gave the charge at a news conference in Minna on Monday.
Mr Yusuf -Sabo stressed that all hands must be on deck to strengthen the civic registration, enhance the generation of vital statistics and ensure that every birth and death in the state was captured.
He said the exercise, which began since July 1, 2026, was aimed at building an efficient and technology driven civil registration system that met international standards.
‘’There is wide gap in terms of birth and death registration that needs to be addressed to accord many citizens legal identity and make reliable data available for national planning.
“The success of this historic reform depends on the active participation of all stakeholders and every Nigerian.
‘’I, therefore, call on all stakeholders to continue working with the commission to ensure that all births and deaths are registered promptly”, he said.
The director said the commission had signed a partnership agreement with relevant stakeholders to decentralise the registration services.
He said the stakeholders include Association of Local Governments of Nigeria; National Identity Management Commission among others
