News Investigators/ The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kebbi chapter, has commended Gov. Nasir Idris for approving the consequential salary adjustment and responsibility allowances for all primary school teachers in the state.
The State Chairman of the union, Murtala Usman, disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
According to Mr Usman, besides the new salary structure, the governor also approved responsibility allowances for primary school teachers, which he described as historic in the entire northern Nigeria.
He said: “Gov. Idris has proven that he is indeed a teacher-friendly governor who is poised to revamp primary education, being the very foundation of basic education for all.
“At the union level, we shall continue to support every development effort of the Kebbi government as a way of encouraging him to do more for the entire state.
“We commend the governor for this kind gesture extended to primary school teachers.
“We equally rejoice with the teachers over the new salary structure and the responsibility allowances. There is no doubt, this will give teachers a new sense of belonging.”
The union leader added that while the teachers were enjoying their new allowances, the union urged them to live above board by justifying the increment through dedication to duty and display of professionalism.
