Nigeria’s situation bad but redeemable – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has described Nigerian’s situation as “bad, very bad but not irredeemable.”

Obasanjo said every right thinking individual knows that the situation could get worse if no urgent step was taken.

He also advised politicians to first strive towards the maintenance peace and national unity before talking about the 2023 general elections.

The elder statesman spoke when he received Peoples Democratic Party National Chairman Uche Secondus, at the  Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library(OOPL), Abeokuta, Ogu State.

Secondus was in company with the PDP National Secretary, Senator Ibrahim Tsauri; National Treasurer, Aribisala Adewale and Ogun State Chairman of the party, Sirikullahi Ogundele

The PDP chairman had told the former President that the visit was to solicit the  support/ideas of ‘elders’ on  how the “present government” could tackle the nation’s security challenges.

Obasanjo, a two-time Nigerian leader (as President and Head of State), said that Nigeria does not have the luxury of time but to strive towards peace and national cohesion now

He expressed gladness that Secondus’ visit was not for the reason of partisan politics, but because of his concern for the good of the country.

His words: “You have not visited me because of partisan politics, but you have visited me as a person who is concerned about where Nigeria is and where Nigeria may be descending into if the right action is not taken.

“And I couldn’t agree with you more, every right-thinking Nigerian and every lover of Nigeria will agree that Nigeria is not what it should be today unless there is something else wrong with them
