News Investigators/ Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas are due to address the UN General Assembly on Thursday as escalating Middle East conflict dominates proceedings.
Abbas is scheduled to address the assembly via video message after being denied a visa to enter the United States.
Several meetings on the Middle East conflict are also planned on the sidelines of the General Assembly.
Britain is set to host consultations on the situation in, and future administration of, the Gaza Strip.
A ministerial meeting, backed by Norway and Saudi Arabia, will focus on implementing a two-state solution.
The UN General Assembly is also holding a high-level meeting on the consequences of rising sea levels, with discussions expected to cover the protection of particularly vulnerable island states and low lying coastal regions, as well as financing and international cooperation.
Representatives of the European Union and Hungary are also expected to address the General Assembly.
The UN’s high level week, which began on Tuesday, will feature speeches by about 120 world leaders, as well as several foreign ministers, until Monday, with a break scheduled only on Sunday.
