…congratulate Gov. Diri on “Governor of the Year” Award
The Ijaw Youths Worldwide (IYW), has described the decision by the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, to approach the State House of Assembly, for a N30billion loan to kick start the Nembe-Brass road project, as exceptional leadership and a step in the right direction.
The group says the decision when approved would facilitate the quick take off of the estimated N100billion project.
The IYC added that it would encourage the Federal Government and other oil multinational companies in the State, particularly the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) to buy into the plan and purpose of the Bayelsa State Government in order to support the luadable project to its logical conclusion.
According to the IYC, the Nembe-Brass road would be more beneficial to workers of oil multinational companies and throw open the aquatic and oil related businesses hidden in the Bayelsa East Senatorial district to the international community and an encouragement to secure a brighter economic future for the riverine areas of the State.
The Ijaw Youths Council Worldwide, in a statement issued by its National Spokesman, Comrade Ebilade Ekerefe, commended the leadership of the State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ngobere for approving the loan proposal expeditiously.
According to Ekerefe, the Nembe-Brass road is very strategic to the economic transformation of the state stressing that the Brass LNG project, the Brass Fertilizer Project are situated in Brass LGA.
He further stated that the road project would also bring the Atlantic Ocean closer to the people of Nembe-Brass and in turn expand the tourism potentials of the state and boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), for rapid development of the zone.
The IYC reiterated the fact that it’s only a passionate and a detribalized leader would seek a N30billion loan facility to embark on project outside his Local Goverment Area or his Senatorial district, adding that such a leader deserves the commendation of all a-sundry.
“While we call on stakeholders to be optimistic over the Gov Diri’s quest for a prosperous Bayelsa, we urge the oil multinationals, particularly Nigerian Agip Oil Company(NAOC) and other political stakeholders in the area to support the quick completion of the project. It is for the benefit of all”, the group reintegrated.
The IYC also congratulates Governor Douye Diri over his emergence as the Daily Independent Newspaper’s Governor of the Year, describing the award as a well deserved achievement.
According to the group, the youths of the region were not surprised that the Governor-General of the Ijaw Nation was singled out among his colleagues for the category.
The foremost Ijaw Youth body also pointed out that the performance of Governor Diri in Bayelsa State, the Niger Delta region and the nation at large speaks volume of his capacity.
The group asserts that the governor at different fora has demonstrated his passion to deliver good governance which is replicated in the health sector, education, sports, agriculture, youth empowerment and engagements and above all, infrastructural development.
Comrade Ekerefe noted that despite the dwindling funds available in the state as a result of the global pandemic, the last two years under the leadership of Governor Diri has been eventful, life-touching and a shining testimony of an impactful leadership.
Comr.Ekerefe therefore called on all well meaning Bayelsans at home and diaspora, irrespective of their political divide, to rally round Governor Diri in order to ensure that he succeeds in delivering all round development to the heartland of the Ijaw Nation.
