Anxiety heightened in Ebonyi State on Sunday as an operative of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) was shot dead by gunmen.

The operative was killed in the morning, during an attack on NDLEA team on duty along the Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway.

Another officer of the agency reportedly sustained serious injury during the attack.

It was gathered that the attack took place around 3 am close to a military checkpoint.

The rampaging gunmen were said to have taken away a rifle belonging to the NDLEA officers.

The gunmen also set ablaze the agency’s patrol truck.
