News Investigators/ Hadiza Mohammed Aliyu, the first female Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), has commended three retired management staff of the agency for their outstanding contributions, dedication and support to the organisation.
Mrs Aliyu gave the commendation on Friday at a send-forth ceremony organised to honour the former EIC, Mufutau Ojo; former EIC and Special Assistant to the Managing Director (MD) on Editorial Matters, Ephraims Sheyin; and former senior management staff, Manga Amusa.
She described her years of working with the retirees as a wonderful and rewarding professional experience, saying their long years of service had contributed significantly to the growth and development of NAN.
The first female EIC expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for giving her the opportunity to serve alongside the retired officers,
She noted that their professional relationship was characterised by mutual support, friendship, cooperation and high standards.
Mrs Aliyu said she had worked closely with the three retirees over the years and sincerely enjoyed the experience, adding that their contributions to the agency would remain appreciated and remembered by colleagues.
She particularly appreciated Mr Ojo, her predecessor and immediate past EIC, for his guidance, leadership and unwavering support to the Editorial Department and to her personally during his tenure.
According to her, Mr Ojo was always available to share ideas, offer useful counsel and encourage members of the editorial team, describing his contribution and support as invaluable to the department.
Mrs Aliyu also reflected on her professional journey with Sheyin, observing that both of them had spent virtually their entire careers at NAN, with Mr Sheyin serving the agency for 35 years and herself for 34 years.
She recalled their collaboration on the UNFPA-NAN project as one of the memorable highlights of their careers, noting that despite being posted to different locations, including Jos, Kafanchan and Lagos, they maintained effective communication and professional cooperation.
Mrs Aliyu said the project further strengthened their friendship and demonstrated the importance of teamwork, commitment and dedication in achieving organisational objectives.
On Mr Amusa, she highlighted her experience of working with him across the Editorial and Marketing departments, praising his collaborative spirit, willingness to exchange ideas and commitment to the agency before his retirement.
She congratulated the three retirees on their successful completion of their careers at NAN and prayed that Almighty Allah would continue to guide, protect and prosper them and their families as they begin a new chapter of their lives.
Mrs Aliyu wished the retirees continued success and fulfilment in their post-retirement endeavours, saying, “May everything you put your hands on prosper, and may Allah bless and protect you and your family.”
