Leadway Donates N117m To Borno Flood Victims

Leadway Group says it has donated cash and relief materials worth N117 million to victims affected by the devastating floods in Maiduguri and other parts of Borno.

Tunde Hassan-Odukale, Group Chief Executive Officer of Leadway, made this known in a statement on Friday in Lagos.

He said the move was to ease the burden on the affected communities, support the state’s recovery efforts, and assist thousands of displaced residents as they rebuild.

According to him, the donation comprises essential cooking supplies and hygiene products valued at N92 million and N25 million direct cash support to the relief fund.

Mr Hassan-Odukale added that an NGO providing critical services to displaced persons, would also be helping individuals identified by the Borno Flood Relief Project Committee.

“We deeply empathise with the people and government of Borno state during this difficult time.

“The impact of this sudden disaster has been profound on the people and residents of Borno, who were gradually getting back to the right socio-economic condition, following years of insecurity in the region.

“We believe every effort matters in alleviating the hardship of those affected, and we are pleased to join the efforts to alleviate their difficulties,” he said.

Mr Hassan-Odukale said that Leadway, as a trusted partner and organisation, stands by individuals and communities in challenging times to provide succour and financial recovery.

He said that the donation symbolises the insurer’s solidarity with the people of Borno and its commitment to helping them rebuild their lives.

“Leadway is dedicated to supporting Nigeria’s journey of resilience; we hope that the gesture, together with the efforts of other compassionate organisations, will bring meaningful relief to the affected communities.

“As a business group, we consistently contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth by shouldering the risks of investors and upholding our commitment to our clients.

“Our support extends beyond financial donations. We are set to honour the claims of three businesses that are crucial to Borno state’s economic growth, as well as accelerate the restoration of the state’s commercial and economic activities.

“We trust that through the diligent efforts of the Relief Committee, these resources will reach those in need swiftly and effectively,” he said.

Mr Hassan-Odukale further said that the initiative reinforced Leadway’s dedication to corporate social responsibility and its mandate to enrich the well-being of individuals and communities in Nigeria.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Borno flood disaster affected over a million residents, displacing thousands, and causing significant damage to infrastructure and property across the state.
