Leadership Tussle: Bauchi ADC Chairman Rejects Suspension From Office

News Investigators/ Hassan Haruna, the embattled Chairman, African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Bauchi State, has declared that he remained the substantive leader of the party.

Mr Haruna dismissed attempts to undermine his authority, adding that the imbroglio stemmed from his refusal to be manipulated by certain interests in the party.

It will be recalled that the party had been embroiled in a leadership crisis, sequel to the suspension of the chairman orchestrated by his deputy, Mohammed Tabla and some party members.

However, Mr Haruna told newsmen on Wednesday in Bauchi, that the suspension violated due process.

“ADC in Bauchi State is one, and I am the substantive chairman. The person who broke the gate of the party secretariat to gain access cannot be compared with someone who holds the legitimate key and authority of the office,” he said.

“How could a few local government chairmen remove a state chairman without the involvement and approval of the state working committee?

“The party in Bauchi is united under my leadership. The state chapter only recognised directives from the national leadership of the ADC, led by Sen. David Mark,” he said.

Mr Haruna enjoined members of the party to uphold discipline and order, stressing that internal disputes should be resolved through lawful and recognised party mechanisms, to preserve unity ahead of future elections.
