News Investigators/ The Lagos State Government has apprehended 396 beggars in a coordinated environmental sanitation enforcement operation aimed at promoting a cleaner, safer and more orderly state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement posted on his official X handle on Tuesday.
According to Mr Wahab, the operation was carried out by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps as part of the government’s sustained efforts to improve environmental sanitation and curb illegal activities.
He said the apprehended persons would be profiled before receiving appropriate assistance where necessary.
The commissioner added that they would subsequently be handed over to the appropriate authorities for safe return to their respective states.
Mr Wahab said the exercise underscored the state’s commitment to maintaining public order, protecting the environment and improving safety.
He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to sustain enforcement operations aimed at ensuring environmental cleanliness and enhancing residents’ quality of life.
