Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has praised Catholic Bishop of Sokoto diocese Dr. Hassan Mathew Kukah, calling him a rare servant of God who works selflessly to save mankind.

Kukah is the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto diocese.

In a birthday messag to Bishop Kukah on the occasion of his seventieth birthday, Governor Ortom praised his unyielding spirit throughout the years, noting that “he stands firm and speaks truth to power at all times no matter whose ox is gored.”

“Bishop Kukah will turn seventy today.

“Bishop Kukah is an extraordinary present to the people of the world.

“He feels a strong connection to those who are marginalized and oppressed.

“He bears the burden of the less fortunate and fights for their rights, even at the expense of his own life”, Ortom said in the message.

The Governor who spoke through his press secretary, recalled the many exploits, trials, and triumphs of Bishop Kukah in his commitment to serve God and humanity.

According to the governor, in spite of all the challenges, Bishop Kukah remained undaunted and was rather spurred to do more for the common man.

He added that the many struggles that Bishop Kukah endured in his commitment to serve God and humanity stand him out.

He stated that Bishop Kukah is a representation of peace, unity, and justice in the country, saying the Bishop has been at the forefront of efforts to promote religious tolerance and harmony.

“Bishop Kukah is an individual who should be honored. He has donated everything to the Catholic community and nobody else comes close to matching his altruistic service”, Ortom said.

He prayed that God, in the boundless merciirx that He possesses, would  bless Bishop Kukah with good health, peace, wisdom, and courage in the years to come so that he would be better able to serve God and humanity.
