News Investigators/ The Kano State House of Assembly has upgraded the state-owned tertiary institution, Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta, to offer science and technology courses.
This followed the passage of the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Dambatta Amendment Bill 2026 into law.
Presenting the bill before the House on Monday, the Majority Leader, Lawan Husaini, said the legislation formally changes the institution’s former name, Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta, to expand its education mandate.
He explained that the amendment provided the institution with a legal framework to expand its programmes to include science and technology courses.
Hussaini added that the development would also enable the institution to seek approval and accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) alongside its existing agricultural programmes.
He added that Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf, would appoint members of the Governing Council of the College.
Earlier, the Assembly also passed into law, the Kano State Education Bill 2026, aimed at revitalising and improving the educational system across the state.
Shedding more light on the bill, Husaini, said the Kano State Education Bill 2026 repeals a long time Education Law of 1964 to provide a more comprehensive legal framework for the sustainable development of education in the state.
According to the Majority Leader, the new law clearly defines the structure of upper and lower basic education for expansion of science and technology education at various stages of learning.
Husaini further explained that the law establishes guidelines for the establishment and operation of educational stakes including private schools, nursery and primary schools.
He added that it further defined the jurisdiction and responsibilities of the State Commissioner for Education in regulating such institutions.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Muhd Bello Butu-Butu, presented a report of the House Committee on Judiciary concerning two nominees for appointment as members of the Kano State Judicial Service Commission.
Following consideration of the report, the House confirmed the appointments of Hajiya Uwani Bello-Makama and Alhaji Ahmad Auwalu-Ibrahim as members of the State Judicial Service Commission.
