News Investigators/ Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has described the judgment against the Sen. David Mark-led leadership of African Democratic Congress (ADC) as shocking.
IPAC’s National Publicity Secretary, Martins Egbeola, who stated this while reacting to the court judgment on Friday in Abuja, expressed concern over its timing, as political parties had commenced campaigns.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, had, on Thursday, nullified the leadership of ADC and invalidated all decisions taken by the party under Sen. David Mark’s leadership.
Mr Egbeola said presidential candidates across the country were already engaging Nigerians, presenting their manifestos and policy alternatives, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“This judgment is quite shocking, particularly given that political parties are already in campaign mode, with presidential candidates across the country engaging Nigerians and presenting their manifestos and policy alternatives, ahead of the general elections,” he said.
He, however, expressed optimism that the judgment would be overturned by the Court of Appeal, considering its far-reaching implications for ADC and Nigeria’s democratic process.
“We are, however, hopeful that the judgment will be overturned by the Court of Appeal, considering the far-reaching implications it could have for ADC, its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, his supporters and the broader democratic process if allowed to stand,” he said.
Mr Egbeola called for a speedy and definitive resolution of the persistent legal battles and leadership disputes within ADC to end the uncertainty.
“The persistent legal battles and leadership disputes within ADC must be brought to a speedy and definitive resolution,” he stated.
The IPAC National Publicity Secretary stressed that no political party should face prolonged uncertainty and unnecessary distractions, particularly with less than three months to the general elections.
“No political party should be subjected to such prolonged uncertainty and needless distractions, especially with less than three months to the general elections,” he said.
