JANUARY 18 RESUMPTION DATE FOR SCHOOLS REMAINS- MINISTRY OF EDUCATION

The Federal Ministry of Education had said that there is no change in the January 18 date for the resumption of Chika across the country.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Sonny Echonno, was quoted to have made the declaration in a news report by AIT on Wednesday.

He said that while the resumption date was sacrosanct, the ministry was engrossed in moves to work out modalities to prevent COVID 19 infection of returning students.

He said that the major preoccupation of the ministry to ensure safety of students.

The Permanent Secretary made the comments to clarify an earlier state by the Minister òf Education that the resumption date was not sacrosanct and subject to review during a briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID 19 on Monday.

The Director General of the NYSC, Brig Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, has restated that all prospective Corp members would be subjected to compulsory COVID 19 tests as a condition for their admission into the orientation camps across the country.

The NYSC had earlier said that it would commence its three week orientation Programme for Batch ‘B’ Stream II on January 19, 2021 amidst the raging increase of COVID 19 in the country.

The DG assured the prospective Corp members not to worry as the scheme has adopted effective measures to ensure their safety.

The NYSC DG spoke while paying a courtesy call on his counterpart at National Council of Arts and Culture in Abuja, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe in Abuja on Wednesday.

He said that the NYSC would only allow those who are screened and confirmed to the COVID 19 negative into the camps.

He added that those who test positive to the raging virus would be taken away to the isolation centre for proper treatment by the NCDC.
