News Investigators/ Sen. Suleiman Kawu-Sumaila (APC-Kano South), says he has presented no fewer than 47 motions on issues that concerned his constituency before the 10th Senate in the last three years.
He made the disclosure at a press conference on the review of the 2023 Kano South Campaign Promises ahead of the 2027 election.
The conference was organised by his office, in collaboration with the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Kawu recalled his promises to the electorate to focus on health, education, water for irrigation, and agriculture.
“I pledged to be the voice of the voiceless and advance the interest of this Senatorial District at the senate.
“Today, I present to you results on that, we are focusing on issues-based campaigns, track record and strategic vision rather than personal attack,” he said.
Kawu-Sumaila revealed that his constituency comprised 16 local governments, 171 political wards with approximately six million population.
While noting that accountability, transparency and feedback are bedrock of democratic governance, the senator urged the media for patience and fairness in their reports.
Kawu-Sumaila said that the 47 motions moved by him in the senate involved Kano South Security, motion to revoke the concession of Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, local government autonomy, and backing the resolution of constituency projects.
Others were a motion to reopen the Nigeria-Niger border, creation of Tiga State, motion to investigate suspected budget padding and multiple overlapping budgets, and on the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBIAS), among others.
According to him, I was able to execute 140 different constituency projects that covered all sectors during the period under review.
He further said that the feat was achieved through collaboration, synergy and support from other stakeholders.
Kawu-Sumaila particularly commended President Bola Tinubu, National Assembly leadership, and the support from his colleagues like the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Barau Jibrin.
He pointed out that all what has been presented were real and visible, and is ready for debate by anyone doubting them.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kawu-Sumaila is contesting re-election for the second term under APC.
