INSECURITY: Northern Broadcast Media Owners to Sensitize Listeners on Role in War against Insurgency

The owners of the registered radio and television stations across states of North numbering sixty have taken a decision to come up programmes deliberately designed to sensitize the people on their roles in the ongoing war against insurgency.

The group also insisted that it would continue to hold government accountable to its role and actions in responding to the alarming insecurity in the region.

The Acting Chairman of the Executive Council of the Northern Broadcast Media Owner’s’ Association, Alhaji Abdullahi Yelwa, spoke during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.

The group said that it has already the flagged off of its media advocacy and campaign against the scourge of insecurity in the region.

He said that the media in the North would not relent in carrying out its sensitive responsibility of reporting the security challenges even though a good number of journalists have become victims of the crisis.

“The Northern media have been at the helm of reporting on these challenges.

“Some of our members have been indeed been victims of insurgency, even as we daily engage in advocacy for the welfare of our troops and victims of insecurity. We shall in fulfillment of our sacred duties continue to hold government accountable.” Yeke’s said

Yelwa said further that while the association was not unmindful of the efforts of the government in tackling the security challenges, it is of the view that a lot more needs to be done.

He said that the membership of the association would continue to volunteer
