The leadership of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) has called for ann urgent intervention in the Agadagba–Obon road and bridge project abandoned 12 years ago.

The President of the INC Prof. Benjamin Ogele Okaba, made the appeal in a statement on Friday.

While congratulating the Sole Administrator/MD of the NDDC on his appointment, he said the project was awarded to Piccolo Brunelli Engineering Ltd. in 2011/2012, at a sum of N6.5billion.

He stressed  that the critical project is in the NDDC 2023 budget.

He also drew the attention of NDCC to the neglect and sufferings of the Ijaw communities of Arogbo and Apoi in Ondo state.

Okaba said specific requests were made for the construction of the Agadagba Obon road/bridge project and the bridge across the Oluagbo–Igbobini River to Okitipupa all in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of the state.

The INC President said that the neglect of the areas has become a source of concern.

“The bridge, if executed will link the traditional/political headquarters of Arogbo Kingdom to the local government headquarters of the state, Niger Delta, and Nigeria at large.

“Without the bridge, road network ends in Agadagba-Obon, cutting off Arogbo kingdom,” he noted.

Okaba said the decision on the bridges were taken at town-hall meetings, which were held in the palaces of the Agadagba of Arogbo, Kalasuowei of Apoi and the Pere of Igbekebo on  June 30 and July 1 respectively.
