IJAW GROUP HAILS COURT ORDER RESTRAINING FG, MINISTER OF PETROLEUM FROM AWARD OF MARGINAL OIL FIELD LICENCES

The coalition of Ijaw interest groups on Thursday, commended the Federal High Court in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital on the ruling, favouring the Ijaw Ethnic Nationality against the Federal government.

The Group urged all citizens and Corporate Organisations to abide by the ruling of the court.

“It is our expectation that all citizens and corporate organizations abide by this ruling.” The group stated.

The Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, had on April 5, 2022, granted an injunction in favor of the plaintiffs High Chief Philip Brown Agu (Opu Agu VIII) and two others on behalf of themselves and the Ijaw Ethnic Nationality.

The court granted the order restraining the Minister of Petroleum/Federal Government from proceeding any further with the award of marginal oil field licences pending the conclusion of a lawsuit on the issue.

The statement by the Coalition of Ijaw interest groups was signed by the Secretary, Ijaw Elders Forum, IEF, Lagos, Efiye Bribena, Moderator, Ijaw Nation Forum, INF, Ben Okoro, BOT Chairman, Embasara Foundation, Chief Amagbe D. Kentebe, President, Homeland Chapter, Ijaw Professionals Association, IPA, Hon. Iniruo Wills, President, Ijaw Professionals Association, IPA, Lagos,Tari Ekpebu and
BOT Chairperson, Ijaw Women Connect, IWC, Ms. Annkio Briggs.

“It has come to the attention of this coalition of Ijaw interest groups that following a suit filed by some patriotic Ijaw sons and daughter, the Federal High Court has granted an injunction restraining the Minister of Petroleum/Federal Government from proceeding any further with the award of marginal oil field licences pending the conclusion of the lawsuit.

“That the respondents be restrained from further advertising and receiving bids in respect of the marginal fields.

“The defendants are also restrained from approving licences in respect of the marginal fields.” The statement read
