I Won’t Take Responsibility For Irresponsibility, Stupidity Of Any Officer – CP Giwa

News Investigators/ The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Giwa, has advised personnel of the command to discharge their duties professionally.

Mr Giwa gave the warning on Friday at the monthly strategic meeting with senior officers and heads of formation and units, warning that he won’t take responsibility for misconduct of any officer.

In attendance at the meeting were Deputy and Assistant Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and heads of formations, tactical units and sections.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the IGP Olatunji Disu had at an emergency conference with senior officers  handed down a warning that CPs would be held liable for misconduct of personnel in their commands.

The warning followed the extra judicial killing of a suspect by a police officer in Delta State and several other reports of notoriety of personnel of the force.

Mr Giwa tasked the senior officers and supervisory commanders in the command to properly supervise their subordinates and ensure utmost professionalism and discipline in the discharge of their duties.

He said that the I-G during the emergency conference stressed on professionalism, discipline, respect for human rights, intelligence-led policing, and responsible conduct in all engagements with the public.

The commissioner also warned that extortion, corruptiontv, abuse of office, unlawful detention, and other misconduct would not be tolerated,

According to him, erring officers would face disciplinary actions in line with extant laws and police regulations.

He further charged officers to remain committed to proactive policing and public safety in the state.
