I-G Commends Security Agencies Over Oriire School Rescue

News Investigators/ The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has commended the synergy among security agencies during the rescue of teachers and pupils abducted from Oriire School in Oyo State.

Mr Disu gave the commendation on Friday in Abuja during a reception organised for police officers involved in the successful rescue operation.

The event also featured prayers for Sgt. John Abena, a police officer who lost his life during the operation.

“The synergy is top-notch. Everybody worked together, contributed their men and deployed their expertise, and I think there is no need to talk about it much because it is something that will continue.

“We have had meetings after the operation and a lot of other ones we have done together.

“This is not the first time that we are coming together. We have come to realise that we all have one mission, one security force and nobody is more important than the other.

“We have made up our minds to work together, train together and fight this insurgency together,” he said.

According to him, insecurity affects everyone, including the families of personnel of the police, military and other security agencies.

He said it was time for all Nigerians to unite and support efforts to tackle insecurity, stressing that security remained everybody’s responsibility.

The I-G urged citizens to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to help prevent criminal activities and enhance public safety.

He commended officers who participated in the rescue operation and said the gathering was also intended to honour the sacrifice of the officer who died in service.

Disu pledged that officers injured during the rescue mission and other operations would continue to receive support, adding that the Force was already covering their medical expenses.

“Most importantly, we are gathered here today to pay our last respect to the officer we lost during the rescue operation and to pray for the forgiveness of his shortcomings.

“The gathering is also to encourage all the officers who took part in the operation because they have done well,” he said.
