Housing For Workers A Right, Not Privilege – Gov Mutfwang

News Investigators/ Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, says that Housing for workers is a right, not a privilege.

The governor said this shortly after he layed the foundation for the construction of a Housing Estate for Civil Servants in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that governor layed the foundation for the project on Thursday in Zarwan Nkie Whie community, Miango District of Bassa Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau.

NAN also reports that the project is a collaborative effort between the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the State Government.

The governor explained that  the state government had spent more than N340 million to acquire the land for the project.

“Housing for our workers is not a privilege, but a right.

“For too long, many of our civil servants have struggled with inadequate housing, spending most of their earnings on rent and leaving little for other family needs.

“To address this challenge, the state government has acquired 38.299 hectares of land here in Miango District at the cost of  ₦346.5 million, which already been fully paid.

“With this project, we are not just building houses, we are creating homes, communities, and enduring legacies” Mutfwang said.

The governor, who promised to continually prioritise the welfare of civil servants in the state, said that the project, when completed would stimulate the workforce towards optimal performance.

“Today, we are laying the foundation of hope, dignity and stability for our hardworking and dedicated workforce.

“This project is a clear testament of our administration’s unwavering resolve to prioritise the welfare of our civil servants.

“When we came into office, we made a solemn promise to rebuild trust, restore dignity and reposition the civil service as a model of excellence.

“And by the grace of God and with your steadfast support, we have made significant progress in this direction,”he said.

Speaking, Mr Stephen Gordons, the Head of Service(HoS) in the state, thanked the governor for approving funds to complete the payment for the land.

“The previous administration in the state made several efforts to purchase the land for this project, but it didn’t see the light of day.

“We want to commend the current administration for acquiring this land for the commencement of this laudable project,”he said.

Also,  Mr Eugene Manji, the NLC Chairman in the state, also lauded Mutfwang for taking the giant step and making the initiative come to fruition.

“This effort is huge and must be commended.

“The choice of the project’s location will be accessible and affordable for all category of workers in the state,”Manji said.
