GUNMEN KILL SIX, ABDUCT TWO INDIANS IN KOGI

Gunmen have killed six people along Itobe, Ajaokuta, Road, Kogi State on Friday evening.

The Network gathered that those killed include two policemen of Mopol 77 Lokoja, two Indians and two drivers of the buses in which they were traveling.

There are also reports that the gunmen also abducted two Indian nationals in the attack.

It was gathered that the deceased workers and drivers who were workers of West African Ceramics, Ajaokuta, were returning home when the gun men attacked them.

The Spokesman of the Kogi State Police Command, Mr William Ovye-Aya, a Superintendent of Police, confirmed the killings in a statement in Lokoja on Saturday.

He said that the two expatriates, two company drivers and two policemen of the rank of inspector were killed during a gun battled with the hoodlums along Lokoja-Ajaokuta road around 8 p.m on Friday.

He said that the policemen were escorting the expatriates of the company when they came under attack.

He stated further that reinforcement comprising police operatives from the Area command and soldiers were drafted to the scene of the attack before the attackers fled the area.

He said that the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Kogi State Command, CP Edward Egbuka, has visited the scene of crime.

According to him, the CP also ordered deployments of operatives of the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Quick Response Unit, State Intelligence Bureau  with other security agencies to restore normalcy in the area.

“The CP is assuring the public that the Command is committed to working in synergy with other security agencies as well as patriotic stakeholders to make the State a safe and secure place for all and sundry.

“He has further asked the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to commence investigations into the unfortunate incident so as to unravel the remote and immediate cause of the attack with a view to bringing the perpetrators to book, ” he said
