•••Fear Grips Residents Over Reprisal Attacks

There is tension in Anambra State following the killing again of three soldiers and a civilian on Wednesday by unknown Gunmen at Umunze community in Orumba South local government area of Anambra state.
It was learnt that the rampaging gunmen had struck at a road block mounted by the soldiers in the early hour’s of the day.
The latest incident in Anambra happened just few days after a similar attack by unknown Gunmen who swooped on soldiers in Enugu state which left two soldiers dead.
Videos of the grisly attack currently trending on the social media, shows soldiers, numbering over three on patrol duties, before a group of armed hoodlums attacked and murdered them.
Already, there is serious concerns among residents of Umumnze and other towns across Anambra’ state and others in the Southeast states over possible reprisal attack by soldiers.
It is on record that the Southeast zone has come under serious state of insecurity following the activities of unknown Gunmen who unleash terror on security personnel and unsuspecting public
Several public buildings including police stations, court premises and local governemnt Secretariat complexes in the recent past have been attacked and razed in Anambra’ state by unknown Gunmen.
Also, some high profile individuals including lawmakers have been murdered after they were kidnapped and beheaded in by the bloodthirsty hoodlums.
The activities of suspected gunmen have crippled the economic well-being of people in the Southeast region with bullio several billions of Naira lost.
Part of the ugly trend is the weekly Sit-At-Home on Mondays on the alleged directive of members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the forefront of the agitation for the release of their detained Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Kanu is being detained in the facility of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja.
IPOB has severally denied any involvement in the biting weekly Sit-At-Home across five states in the Southeast geo political zone.
Anambra’ state alone is said to be losing an estimated N19billion each week to the IPOB sit at home as markets, businesses and shops are shut down during the exercise.
However, details of how the incident occured remained sketchy as at the time of this report.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the State Command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga when contacted confirmed the attack on the soldiers and another.
He said, “There was a sporadic shooting in the area but we don’t have details of what happened. I cannot speak for the Army but we have deployed our men to the area to restore order.”
