Global System of Mobile Communication (GSM) service providers have implemented the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari banning mobile lines that are not linked to National Identification Numbers, (NIN).

President Buhari had on Monday directed the Nigerian Communication Commission, (NCC) in conjunction with various GSM Network service providers to deactivate any line that is not linked to NIN.

This is part of the measures aimed at curtailing the activities of bandits, kidnappers and perpetrators of other crimes nationwide.

Barely 24 hours after the directives, users of the affected lines in ibadan and adjoining communities are now lamenting their inability to make calls.

At the popular Adelabu market, some kilometres away from the NIMC state office, users of the affected lines were lamenting over their inability to transact businesses online due to the government directives.

A textile dealer at the market, Mrs Adeola Akano queried, how many times do they want us to register our lines?”

She submitted that she has used a NIN issued to her by a particular bank, (name withheld) but was surprised that the management of NIMC fails to recognise the number.

“I have been to NIMC office several times but efforts to remedy the situation is to no avail. It has always being one excuse or the other.

“I am into an online business but this directive has made things difficult. I can’t quantify my loss, I pray that the operators will give us, especially those of us that are using the lines for legitimate business.

“Some of us from this axis have been to the NIMC office at the new garage. We were told to come back tomorrow.

As at the time of filing this report, Officials of the NIMC at the State office have closed for the day.
