FORMER NIGERIAN LEADER, CHIEF EARNEST SHONEKAN DIES AT 85

Former Nigerian leader, Chief Earnest Shonekan has died at the Evercare Hospital Lagos on Tuesday. He was aged 85.

Shonekan was the head of the Interim Administration set up by former Military President, Gen Ibrahim Babangida following the annulment of the June 12, 1993 Presidential elections. 
The interim administration headed by him was toppled in a coup led by General Sani Abacha.
He was the interim head of the Nigerian government between August 26 and November 17, 1993.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the United African Company, was born on May 9, 1936 in Lagos. He attended the popular CMS Grammar School, and Igbobi College, Lagos.

He proceeded to the University of London where he bagged a degree in Law and was called to Bar.

Shonekan also attended the prestigious Harvard Business School, after which he joined the UAC in 1964.
