FORMER KANO GOV, SHEKARAU DEFECTS TO NNPP

The former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau has defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress to the New Nigerian Peoples Party.

Senator Shekarau represents Kano Central Senatorial Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

The President of Senate, Ahmed Lawan made the announcement at plenary after a closed door meeting of the Senate on Wednesday.

The former Kano State Governor hinged his decision to quit the APC on unfair treatment by Gov Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State.

“I am defecting from the APC to my new party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party as a result of unfairness, injustice by Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

“For the past two years there have been unresolved crisis in Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, hence, I have resigned my membership.”

The defection of Shekarau to the NNPP is believed to have strengthened the new party ahead of the 2023 general election.
