News Investigators/ The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), has sealed off the offices of Life Camp Paradise Estate located at the Life Camp area of the Federal Capital Territory.
Marvin Nadah, the Deputy Director, Surveillance and Investigations Department of FCCPC, who sealed off the office on Thursday, said the move was due to failure of the estate company to comply with the notice of the Commission.
Mr Nadah said the Commission had received various consumer complaints concerning real estates and all were against Paradise Estate Limited.
He said the Commission issued a notice to the company since February, directing it to hand over properties paid by consumers since the past three years but the company had yet to comply.
According to him, failure to comply with the notices that we have given, in line with Section 150 of the FCCPAct 2018, that is why we are here to carry out enforcement, which is to seal.
”We are convinced of the action the Commission is taking at this point as being lawful,” he said.
Mr Nadah appealed to consumers to be mindful and careful to verify promises made by developers before subscribing to them.
Reacting to the sealing, Aloysius Ezenwa, the Head, Legal of the Life Camp Paradise Limited, said the company had summons from FCCPC regarding a petition from one of its subscribers.
Mr Ezenwa said the company had filed an appeal against the decision of the Commission at the
Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal.
”One of our subscribers, that we are not too pleased with our procedures and processes filed a complaint, as it were, at their office and we were sent a summons regarding that petition.
”We responded accordingly, as required. The transaction that is causing this issue is well covered by contract of sale.
”We responded highlighting all the relevant provisions of the contract of sale, duly executed by the parties at the time they entered into the contract.
“They said we should comply with the directive from the commission, which is at variance with the contract of sale,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that members of staff members of the estate company were evacuated before the sealing.
